Beverages | WHITE WINES

Weißweine | Cuvées | Roséweine | Dessertweine
By far the most important white wine variety in Austria is the Grüner Veltliner, which comes from a Tramin cross. A centuries-old vine that was found in St. Georgen in Burgenland points to the second parent variety. The Roter Veltliner is an old white wine variety that places high demands on the location. It is very sensitive to fungal diseases, winter and spring frosts.
The Gemischter Satz usually consists of three types of white quality wine. The largest proportion of a grape variety must not be higher than 50%, the third largest proportion must be at least 10%.
Rosé wines are very light-colored wines made from red grapes that are produced using various production processes. The berries are only left on the mash for a few hours. Depending on the intensity of contact with the berry skins, the rosé wine is colored to varying degrees; the color spectrum ranges from salmon-colored to cherry red. Since the aim is to have the lowest possible alcohol content and fresh flavors, it is particularly popular in summer.
The ancient grape variety comes from the Mediterranean region in ancient times. It is the racy and spicy representative of the extensive nutmeg family and a true globetrotter. In terms of distribution, the Muscat is a rarity in Austria, but in terms of popularity it is a hit. Red Muscat is a white wine variety with a strong muscat bouquet that was created as a mutation from Yellow Muscat. The berry is medium-sized and reddish in color. Apart from the color of the berries, all other characteristics of the two varieties are identical.
Der König der Weißweine wurde im Lauf der Geschichte aus Wildreben am Rhein selektiert und weiterentwickelt. Der Riesling ist eine langsam reifende Rebsorte, deren prägendes Element die fruchtige Säure ist.
In the classic Chardonnay, the fruit dominates in combination with an elegant spice. It was only towards the end of the last century that Chardonnay gained importance in terms of area in Austria. In Styria, the name Morillon is traditionally used as a synonym for Chardonnay.
French term for blend of wines (cuve = closed vat); these can come from different grape varieties, locations or vintages.
Sauvignon Blanc, also known as Blanc Fumé, or Sauvignon Jaune, is a white wine variety with worldwide distribution. The grape variety is one of the 20 most commonly grown grape varieties in the wine world and is the second most important white quality variety after Chardonnay.
Pinot blanc, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Bianco or Klevner is a type of white wine. It has been known since the 14th century and is considered a Burgundy variety.
Selection refers to both the degree of ripeness of the grapes and their sugar content at the time of harvest, as well as the wine made from them. When harvesting, Auslese refers to the selection of fully ripe, golden yellow grapes. The grapes affected by noble rot are harvested by hand. For Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese, you must also wait for the berries affected by gray mold rot (Botrytis cinerea) to shrink. Auslese are suitable for long storage; they gain in flavor with each year of maturation.
